Pericles Kalamanos’ life seemed predestined by fate from the day he is born. Like a cloud he is subject to the wind, ready to be blown away or forced to rain down to earth. His childhood, although surrounded by people who adore him, is marked by tragedy and his first love will forever leave a mark on his heart. Pericles will find himself living difficult times, and in Nazi-Occupied Thessaloniki he will be called to the role of protector of young Alianna. Years later he will discover hidden letters that will lead him away from his village in the Peloponnese, to Athens and then on to the other side of the world.

In America, he will search out the Dream held by all immigrants of the time and there he will find his childheart sweetheart again. Pericles will be faced with an impossible dilemma: should he follow his heart or remain faithful to his conscience and all he has held true for so long.

Award-winning children's author Maria Rousakis makes her debut in adult fiction with a stunning novel that tells of immigration and escape, faithfulness and passions of the heart.
