There is nothing healthy about the worship of beauty.
Alma and Ellinopi, however, believed that beauty is all the light that hidden within us.
Two women capture moments with their photographic lense until fate brings them closer Alma, at the dusk of her life, and Alma at its noon. Their existence is an endless game of light and shadow.
Alma’s life is a life filled with twists and turns. From the destruction of Aidini and Smyrna in Asia Minor, to cosmopolitan Dresden in the years between the wars, and from the first photographers studios in Athens to New York during WWII. Travelling companions throughout her journey are the most important personalities and figures of the time.
Ellinopi’s life, on the other hand, is filled with wounds. From the stifling countryside to the bright lights of the capital city, and from the pain of an unfulfilled love to her escape from a loveless marriage.
Their relationship is one of love and through it, their entire world changes and the dark crevices of their lives fill with light…
A magnificent novel inspired by the life and work of legendary photographer, Nelly.
