Valerio Massimo Manfredi is an Italian historian and archaeologist and was voted Man of the Year 1999 by the American Biographical Institute. Manfredi's books have been translated into several languages. He is the author of the enormously successful ALEXANDER trilogy.He was born in 1943. He lives and works in his country house in Piumazzo di Castelfranco Emilia (Modena). He graduated in Classical Arts and specialized in antique typography. He has directed and taken part in a number of scientific expeditions, explorations, and diggings both in Italy and abroad. He has taught at Milan Universit? Cattolica, the University of Venice, Chicago Loyola University, and at Sorbonne Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes. He has translated and annotated Anabasi by Xenophon and published a number of essays including La strada dei Diecimila (1986), Gli etruschi in Val Padana (con L. Malnati, 1991), Mare greco (con L. Braccesi, 1992), and Le isole fortunate (1993). As an antiquity expert, he writes for Panorama and Messaggero.
