Born in 1961 in Bengal, Arundhati Roy grew up in Kerala. She trained to be an architect. Her first novel The God of Small Things, which won the Booker Prize in 1997, spent forty nine weeks on the New York Times bestseller lists and has been published in thirty three languages. Her first volume of non-fiction writing, The Algebra of Infinite Justice, was published by Penguin India in 2001. She lives in New Delhi.
