KOSTAS KARAKASSIS was born in Egypt. His uncle was a famous musicologist and violinist and one of the Egyptian poets and authors of the 1930’s generation. After the war, his family moved to Greece. He joined the Royal Navy where he serviced for many years. Later, he worked in the Tourist and Public Relations business. He started writing at a young age but he never considered writing as a profession. Today he lives in Nafplion, a small town in the Peloponnese, a place he describes as his haven away from the “new way of life” of the capital. A number of his writings have been published in newspapers and magazines. His debut novel, ATHINA, THANK GOD I WASN’T BORN BEAUTIFUL, was an instant editorial success. All of Kostas Karakassis’ novels –in addition to their engaging plots– have an international flavour that makes them ideal for translation.
