Athena Hatji was born in the town of Thermo in mainland Greece in 1975. She graduated from the Department of History and Archaeology of the National University of Athens, with a major in Archaeology and History of Art. She subsequently undertook postgraduate studies in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of California at Berkley, where she completed her MA and her PhD studies. She has worked as a professional archaeologist, with significant exposure to excavation work, laboratory work, teaching (University of California at Berkely), and writing (papers presented at international conferences and published articles). She worked as a Special Events Coordinator in the International Relations Department of the Athens 2004 Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games. At present, she works for the Greek Ministry of Education. Athena Hatji is a brilliant new writer with contemporary heroes that successfully depicts the bitter-sweet moments of life.
